Give Your Burden to the Lord

by Charleen Burghardt

Do you feel emotionally drained or emotionally worn out from all the demands on you and all you are carrying?

I recently experienced a packed schedule and carrying family concerns and worries.

Thoughts swirl around in our heads with questions of “why.” Then we add the demands of family, a job, and caring for the house can overwhelm us. Being worn out can cause us to want to run away because it all seems too big.

Ever wish to escape through flight? Me, too. Sometimes, I would like to fly away like a bird.

The psalmist spoke of a longing to escape when distressed.

Oh, that I had wings like a dove;
Then I would fly away and rest!
 I would fly far away.
To the quiet of the wilderness
(Psalm 55:6,7 NLT).

Even though all seemed dismal, King David prayed.

Morning, noon, and night
I cry out in my distress,
And the Lord hears my voice
(Psalm 55:16 NLT).

In the end, David said he gave God his burdens, and God sustained him. We can give our burdens and all the stress to a Holy and Loving God.

Give your burdens to the Lord,
And he will take care of you.
He will not permit the godly to slip and fall (Psalm 55:22 NLT).

Often, a simple prayer can help us give all our concerns, burdens, worries, and stresses to the Lord. Pray when needed. Peace will come.

Prayer:

Dear Holy One,

When I cannot handle the weight of grief,
Comfort me.
When I am weary in the morning,
Strengthen me.
When I am tired at noon,
Revive me.
When I am exhausted in the night,
Refresh me.
When each day seems to drain my energy,
Sustain me.
When pressure weighs on me from all directions,
Transcend my circumstances.
When I’m depleted,
Sustain me.
When stress is overwhelming,
Calm me.
When I lack the means to replenish my feelings,
Speak grace to me.
Holy One, refresh me as the rain refreshes the dry earth.

Amen

Peace comes when we give our burdens to the Lord.

  1. Great blog. I have found that in exchange for my concerns and worries the Lord of Peace gives me his peace. Often I have to keep reminding myself, “I’ve given this to the Lord. Go away.” I enjoyed scrolling through your bookshelf. There are many I want to read.

  2. Thank you for your message. I’ve been praying for your son Joel. How is he doing and has he been able to receive a transplant? Love and prayers.
