Updates:
I know many of you have asked about my son, Joel, who is in liver failure. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. He is waiting for a donor who can donate a partial liver. His wife, Sally, will be tested to see if she can donate a partial liver to him.
Here’s an update on my book: Where Hope Rises: 60 Devotions for Walking Through Grief with God. It is being edited and will be published at the end of July! This is exciting news.
Refreshed For Living
When my family and I visited Zion National Park, we felt small as we gazed up. Imposing and stark mountains framed our rustic cabin nestled in the narrow valley. This high desert area is known for its red, lofty peaks and cliff formations. We spent several days climbing the steep trails and enjoying the views. During the hikes, I wondered what sustained this arid, rocky fortress’s abundant plant and animal life.
Cabin framed by imposing mountains.

We seemed small against the rocky peaks.

High desert yet wildlife
I wondered what sustained the wildlife and the vegetation.
One day, we hiked a trail called Weeping Rock. After stopping a few times to catch our breath, we saw water seeping above our heads. Surrounding the wet crag, verdant ferns and vibrant grasses grew. With closer examination, we witnessed a spring bubbling out clear, cold water. We stood in awe of this seemingly impossible water source that brought life to the desert.

A spring of water flows from a rock. Green ferns surround the opening.
While on the way home, I reflected on the flowing water. The spring reminded me of what Jesus said about giving living water. We can feel desolate and exhausted with no inner resources, but Christ provides living water to quench our thirst and renew our spirit. No matter our stress, circumstances, or weaknesses, Jesus brings hope and grace like a spring in the desert. Living water that flows from us can point others to a relationship with Jesus.
“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” -John 7:38 (NIV)
Prayer: Dear life-giving God, thank you for living water for our every need. Refresh and renew us. Please help us give living water to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Thought for the Day: No matter the circumstances, Christ quenches my thirst.
Prayer Focus: Those who are weary.
